Family Cruise to Bermuda

This year's only trip was taking the entire family on a cruise to Bermuda to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.  As soon as school ended for the three teachers and two students we embarked on Celebrity Summit in NJ for a 7-day vacation.

The pools attracted many in the family, eating the yummy meals and snacks appealed to all.  Reading and napping filled in the gaps.

The ship docked at King's Wharf on Bermuda's western tip, site of the Royal Naval Dockyard.  Construction of this massive British naval fortress began in 1809 and today it is the #1 attraction of this Island nation.  In a six acre park-like setting, it is home to the Bermuda Maritime Museum, Bermuda Arts Center, Bermuda Craft Market, the 1834 cast-iron commissioner's House, additional buildings that house collections plus restaurants and shops. 

From here a ferry carried us to St. George on the opposite end of the island.  This attractive World Heritage Site proved to be a pleasant spot to walk around and a short jaunt to snorkeling in Tobacco Bay's aqua waters.

Another outing took us to Flatt's Village via ferry to Hamilton then a bus to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo,  a worthwhile visit.  

A curiosity is Somerset Bridge, the smallest drawbridge in the world.  This 17th century span is a mere 22" wide, just enough to allow the mast of a sailboat to pass through.

Some of the buses that take people around the island are driven by kamikazes!  If you must stand, hold on with both hands.  Beautiful pink sand beaches are magnets for tourists who want sand, surf and snorkeling.

After too short a stay in Bermuda the ship made a rapid return trip but we had the pleasure of more relaxation, fun, a few shows and, of course, food.
